What is Chiropractic Medicine?
Today Chiropractic care is much more than a way of seeking relief from neck and back pain. Chiropractic can also help you understand more about healthy lifestyles, exercising, stretching and posture, and healthy diets.

The principle of Chiropractic is based primarily upon the bodies biomechanics’, the relationship between the spine and the nervous system and the many and varied problems that may result from their dysfunction.
Chiropractic is a main-stream healthcare profession serving the needs of thousands of Americans. Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, other health insurers, and the medical profession all recognize the contribution of Chiropractic to healthcare.

How it Works
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that our nervous systems control the function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ and system of the body.
While the brain is protected by the skull, the spinal cord is more vulnerable, covered by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion or position, they can irritate the nervous system. This disrupts the function of the tissues or organs these nerves control.

Chiropractic is the science of locating these areas of spinal and extra-spinal malfunction and the art of correcting them to allow the body to heal itself.
To do this chiropractic physicians use a technique called an adjustment. An adjustment is a carefully executed maneuver that usually results in a joint clicking as a sticky joint is released. Adjustments are generally painless and contrary to popular beliefs seem completely normal and un-dramatic. They usually are pleasant because of improved mobility, and other health benefits that may be noticed soon after.

Because chiropractic is about allowing the body to heal itself, it does not include the use of drugs or surgery. Today's chiropractic physicians are trained as primary care physicians who appreciate and recognize that patients who require such intervention are referred for medical care.

Your First Visit

Before making a diagnosis and adjusting a patient's spine, a chiropractic physician will undertake a health history and a thorough examination of the body’s mechanics so he has a full understanding of your health status.
Some of the questions and procedures may seem irrelevant, but remember when one part of your body has a problem, usually all other parts of your body are affected to some extent as well. The information will help to ensure a safe effective program of Chiropractic treatment is designed especially for you. Don't hesitate to ask questions. It is your right to be informed.

This examination may also include an X-ray when clinically indicated.

Here at Crossroad Chiropractic we offer many forms of traditional chiropractic, hands on techniques along with several non-force techniques. This flexibility in treatment allows therapy to be customized and appropriate for patients of any age or condition.
